What is AS4084?

AS4084 is the Australian Standard for Steel Storage Racking. It mandates that all pallet racking systems be regularly inspected by competent persons to ensure structural integrity and workplace safety.

Under Work Health & Safety (WHS) legislation, warehouse operators have a duty of care to ensure racking systems are safe. Non-compliance can result in fines, injury claims, and operational shutdowns.

Three levels of risk

Every damage is classified into one of three risk levels as per AS4084 guidelines.

Green — Low Risk

Minor cosmetic damage. No structural impact. Monitor during next scheduled inspection.

Amber — Medium Risk

Moderate damage requiring repair within a defined timeframe. Reduced section load may apply. Action plan required.

Red — High Risk

Severe structural damage. Immediate offloading and isolation required. Rack section must not be used until repaired and re-inspected.
